Official Language: The official languages are Dutch, French and German. Dutch is slightly more widely spoken than French, and German is spoken the least.
Currency: The Euro is now the official currency of 12 EU member states (including Belgium). The first Euro coins and notes were introduced in January 2002; the Belgian Franc was still in circulation until 28 February 2002, when it was completely replaced by the Euro. Euro (€) = 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of €500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5. Coins are in denominations of €2, 1 and 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 cents.
Electricity: 220 volts AC, 50Hz. Plugs are of the round two-pin type.
Religion: Mainly Roman Catholic, with small Protestant and Jewish communities.

Climate: Seasonal and similar to neighbouring countries, with warm weather from May to September and snow likely during winter months.

Brussels Zaventem (BRU) is 12km (8 miles) northeast of the city (travel time – 35 minutes).
Antwerp (ANR) (Deurne) is 2km (1.2 miles) east of the city.
Ostend (OST) 5km (3 miles) from the city.
Charleroi (CRL) (Brussels South Charleroi) is 5km (3 miles) from Charleroi and 46km (29 miles) from Brussels.
Liège (LGG). There are taxis and a regular bus service to the centre, 5km (3 miles) away.
